Governor Rick Perry signed HB 1634, the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program, into law on June 7. The bill provides $22 million in incentives for production companies to film in Texas, and brings Texas closer to being competitive with New Mexico and Louisiana, who already have lucrative incentive programs.
A movie shooting in Texas, with certain restrictions, and completed after September 1st, may be eligible for a rebate of up to 5% of its budget spent in Texas. If we qualify, and we almost certainly will, these incentives could translate into $100,000 or more. Since this would be money not required to be raised from investors, it would be designated as equity for our charities, along with the other donations, discounts, and volunteer hours.
