After seeing Dr. No in a small-town theater in west Texas in 1963, two things were clear to teenager David Stephens: He wanted to make movies, and he wanted to be James Bond. Six years later, after graduating from the U.S. Army Intelligence School in Baltimore, he arrived in Viet Nam as a counterintelligence agent with the First Cavalry Division, not exactly James Bond, but close enough. Making movies came later, along with stints as a typesetter, printer, private investigator, photographer, author, writer, publisher, computer programmer, auctioneer, and professional poker player. He is a member of Writers’ Guild of America, West. He has written, produced or directed several movies, including Hide and Seek, Lebensborn, and Cabin by the Lake, which held the record as USA Network’s highest-rated original movie for several years.
His teen comedy script, Wish List, was recently selected by Written By, the Writers’ Guild magazine, as one of the best unproduced comedy scripts in Hollywood. He recently sold an untitled horror/thriller screenplay, co-written with Blake Snyder, to Jamie Kennedy’s production company. It should go into production this year.
